School Security

In an ongoing effort to ensure the safety of the RGSD school community, metal detectors will be in use at all RGSD schools and district administration buildings beginning the 2025-26 school year.

The district has also implemented a clear backpack policy for all students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade to enhance security measures and ensure transparency in the screening process. If you need assistance with a clear backpack, please contact your school.

Search Procedures

By Policy JFG: Searches of Students, and Policy ECA: Building and Grounds Security, the district has established clear guidelines for security screening:

Metal detector activation will result in bag searches conducted by trained school safety personnel

Student property searches are based on reasonable suspicion of policy violations or safety concerns

All searches are limited in scope and conducted with respect for student privacy and dignity

Adult witnesses will be present during searches when possible
