Students entering Danforth Elementary School on the first day of school

Riverview Gardens School District invites students, alumni, staff, area residents and community leaders to the Danforth Farewell Tour on Thursday, June 4, at Danforth Elementary School. The event offers a final opportunity for stakeholders to walk the halls of the building and share memories before its scheduled closure at the end of the 2025–2026 academic year.

The district will host two tour sessions to accommodate the community:

  • Morning Session: 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.

  • Afternoon Session: 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Attendees are encouraged to take photos and videos throughout the site to document their personal history with the school. The district will also provide a dedicated space for individuals to share their favorite stories and reflections about Danforth Elementary’s legacy within the Riverview Gardens community.

The farewell tour follows the RGSD Board of Education’s decision to close the facility after a comprehensive demographic study and community engagement process. The study identified significant infrastructure challenges at Danforth, including a multi-level design that poses ADA accessibility issues and outdated infrastructure requiring an estimated $3.5 million in critical repairs, including window replacements, structural work, and flooring upgrades.

Danforth Elementary School also hosted a Last Dragon celebration for school and district staff on Tuesday, May 26. The school hosted a special dinner to close out the 2025-2026 school year. Staff members were honored with special awards and recognition for their contributions to the Danforth community.
