Riverview Gardens School District will observe an AMI/Virtual Learning Day on Tuesday, January 27 due to inclement weather and expected icy road conditions. This decision was made with the health and safety of the RGSD community in mind. All students should log onto their virtual classroom at the times identified in the AMI Plan, linked below.
All in-person meetings or events scheduled for Tuesday, January 27 will need to occur virtually or be rescheduled. The RGSD Board of Education meeting, originally scheduled to be hosted at Gibson Elementary School, will be held virtually. Open session will begin at 7 pm. The meeting will be livestreamed on RGSD’s YouTube page.
RGSD will continue to monitor the weather conditions and communicate a decision regarding in-person learning for Wednesday, January 28 as soon as possible.
During an AMI Day, in-person classes are canceled, but students will take part in independent learning activities with online teacher support.
Families of students in grades K–3 should help students check their district email for messages and instructions from teachers. Parents/guardians, please also check your personal email for additional information.
Students in grades 4–12 should check their district email at the start of the AMI school day to review instructions from their teachers. Parents/guardians, please also check your personal email for additional information.
All teachers are required to have Google Meet office hours from 9:00 am - 11:00 am and from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm to provide students with support. This provides students the opportunity to enter the virtual classroom to ask and/or clarify instructions.
Important for Good Attendance:
In order for students to be marked as present on AMI Days, students must:
Log into Google Classroom
Complete any assigned work AND turn the completed work into their teachers on the day they return to in-person instruction/class
Parents, please assist RGSD in improving student attendance by ensuring that your student logs into their Google Classroom and completes the assignment(s).
We want all of our students to succeed, and one of the most important ways families can support learning is by ensuring students attend school every day, even on AMI Days. Regular attendance helps students stay engaged, build strong learning habits, and make consistent academic progress.
Attendance also directly impacts the resources available to our schools. When students are present, our district receives the funding needed to support classrooms, learning materials, student services, and enrichment opportunities. When attendance is low, funding from the state is reduced by millions of dollars —affecting all of our students and the programming we are able to provide for them.
Every day truly matters. By ensuring your student attends school regularly and arrives ready to learn, you are partnering with us to strengthen our schools, support high-quality instruction, and create the best possible outcomes for your students.
Temperatures may remain extremely cold for the upcoming weeks. Parents, please be sure to dress your children appropriately for the cold weather on days when school is in session. If your child needs a coat or other winter clothing, please contact your school’s front office. Riverview Gardens School District has community partnerships in place and may be able to help.
It is our goal to ensure that, even during inclement weather, our students can continue to learn and grow. We ask our parents to partner with us by ensuring their student attends school every day (even AMI Days), and arrives prepared and ready to learn.
Together, we can support the best possible academic outcomes for all students.
Respectfully,
Dr. Tanya Patton
Superintendent
Riverview View Gardens School District
