Four students from Westview Middle School got a unique opportunity to learn from professional golfers during the APGA Daugherty Foundation Championship Youth Golf Clinic, held Oct. 1 at the historic Glen Echo Country Club.
The clinic, hosted by the Advocates Professional Golf Association (APGA) Tour and the Daugherty Foundation, brought together more than 100 local youth for hands-on golf instruction and mentorship from APGA Tour professionals. Students practiced putting, driving, and short-game techniques while also hearing from golfers about discipline, perseverance, and the importance of diversity in sports.
The event was part of the 2025 APGA Daugherty Foundation Championship week, a three-day celebration of golf that included both men’s and women’s professional tournaments. Organizers said the youth clinic was designed to inspire the next generation and expand access to a sport that has traditionally lacked diversity.
The APGA Tour, founded in 2010, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing greater diversity to golf and preparing players of color for the highest levels of competition. The tour hosts professional tournaments, development programs, and community events nationwide.
Westview Middle School’s participation reflects the school’s commitment to exposing students to new experiences and encouraging them to explore interests beyond the classroom.
The youth golf clinic and championship events were held at Glen Echo Country Club in north St. Louis County, a historic venue that continues to play a role in connecting the sport of golf to the broader community.
