Students and educators gathered Thursday at Riverview Gardens High School for an interactive workshop aimed at helping families navigate the complex world of scholarships and financial aid.
Led by DeVonte’ Jackson, a student advisor with The Scholarship Foundation, the session — titled “Recognize the Right Money for You and Search for Scholarships Like a Pro” — offered practical advice on how to identify, apply for and secure scholarships that align with individual goals and financial needs.
Jackson emphasized the importance of understanding eligibility requirements, tailoring applications to specific awards, and starting the search early. “The right money is out there for every student — it’s just about knowing where to look and how to present yourself,” he told attendees.
Riverview Gardens High School scholars were in attendance during the session. Students outside the district were also able to participate virtually.
The session concluded with a Q&A, where in-person and virtual participants received personalized guidance and resources to continue their scholarship search.
The event was presented by The Little Bit Foundation and sponsored by Citi. The goal was to empower students to pursue higher education without being overwhelmed by financial barriers.
