Dr. Joell Ramsdell

Riverview Gardens School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Joell Ramsdell, Ed.D., as the assistant superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction for the 2025-2026 school year.

In his role, Ramsdell will assist in implementing the district’s vision, mission and goals, assume responsibility and leadership for the research-based academic progress of each student, provide leadership and support for the school improvement processes and evaluate and assist with the implementation of educational programs. 

He will also develop and promote professional growth for staff, assist principals with the coordination of instructional programs and aid in the establishment of student achievement expectations. 

"Dr. Joell Ramsdell offers extensive expertise and a comprehensive background in curriculum development that will greatly benefit our Curriculum and Instruction department," said Superintendent Tanya Patton, Ed.D. "His forward-thinking leadership, commitment to effective instruction and innovation will play a key role in advancing academic achievement across RGSD."

Ramsdell previously served as the principal of Foreign Language Academy in Kansas City, Missouri. At FLA, Ramsdell helped improve daily attendance and state assessment scores. Additionally, his support of other charter schools within KCPS allowed these schools to witness academic growth as well. 

He brings experience as an interim superintendent and a vocal music teacher with more than 34 years of experience.   

Ramsdell earned an Educational Doctorate in Administration from Baker University. He also earned a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Pittsburg State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education/Vocal Performance from Northwestern University.  

Ramsdell has received numerous accolades and honors, including Kansas State Teacher of the Year in 2006.
