State Board of Education Approves Changes to RGSD SAB

On Tuesday, December 7, the State Board of Education approved recommendations that will impact the makeup of the Riverview Gardens School District’s Special Administrative Board. The actions are part of a plan by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to gradually return Riverview Gardens School District to local governance. In an effort to keep the RGSD community informed, we would like to make you aware of the upcoming changes.

Highland Family Food Market Grand Opening
Highland Family Food Market serves fresh food

The Highland Family Food Market provides access to healthy food options for families of scholars attending Highland and Glasgow Elementary. The market offers a mix of fresh produce and dairy products, shelf-stable and frozen foods. The market is open to families, by appointment, every Thursday from 9:00-11:00 a.m. It is also available to school staff at any time to provide for emergency student needs.

Dr. Joylynn Pruitt-Adams appointed Acting Superintendent for Riverview Gardens School District

Riverview Gardens School District announced the appointment of Dr. Joylynn Pruitt-Adams as Acting Superintendent, effective November 15. Pruitt-Adams will lead the District following the announcement of Dr. Scott Spurgeon’s leave of absence until June 30, 2022 and his retirement on that date. The Special Administrative Board made the appointment at its Nov. 1 meeting.

District Closed Nov. 22 and 23 as Well-Being Days Approved by SAB

The Special Administrative Board and the District administration team are appreciative of the commitment shown by RGSD faculty and staff. In order to support scholars, staff and community, Nov. 22 and Nov. 23 have been reclassified as RGSD Well-Being Days by the SAB. On these days, all schools, offices and departments will be closed to allow our community to focus on social and emotional health.

Morrow-Reel elected President of RGSD Special Administrative Board

The Special Administrative Board of Riverview Gardens School District held board elections at its Oct. 26 meeting. The State Board of Education recently issued a proclamation, expanding the SAB from three members to five. The State Board’s proclamation dictated that the SAB would “reorganize and determine the SAB leadership within 14 days” of the proclamation.

Free COVID-19 vaccines are available for ages 5 and older starting November 10

Free COVID-19 vaccines are available for ages 5 and older starting November 10. Supplies may be limited. St. Louis County Library and the St. Louis County Department of Public Health are offering weekly COVID-19 vaccine clinics at 4 library branches. Health insurance or proof of residency is not required. Free transportation is available by calling 314-615-2660. Appointments are strongly recommended, but walk-ups will be accepted. SAFETY ALERT - Early Dismissal at RGHS, CMS and WMS due to online threat of violence

The Riverview Gardens School District administration has been made aware of a threat of violence circulating on social media targeting Riverview Gardens High School, Central Middle School and Westview Middle School. After consulting with local law enforcement by District administration, the Special Administrative Board has made the decision to conduct an early dismissal at our high school and middle school campuses today, Friday, Nov. 5.
